It was a wonderful opportunity for me!  I was asked to educate the probation officers about my world of hidden special needs.  I was honored.  Turns out that my audience also included psychologists which was even better.  I love a mix of people because we all have different perspectives regarding special needs.

A day that will go down in infamy.  It should have been a glorious day for so many!  Running in a marathon is a huge accomplishment - something to be celebrated.  Each runner should be admired.

I never know what phase Ryan is going through when it comes to food.  While candy, cookies, cupcakes are a constant - I never know what else he all of a sudden wants to eat every day.

We love our restaurants!  And we love when our restaurants send us e-mail coupons - even better!  I recently received a coupon for "buy one, get one" at Smashburger.  I think they're quite good and all over Houston.

Do I need to mention how many times I've reminded Ryan that you don't just   barge into someone's office or interrupt their conversation?  I didn't think so.  I've explained a million times that you have to be respectful of others.

It is very hard to believe that Ryan will be 18 on March 26th.  So many thoughts come to mind.  Where did the last 18 years go?  Is Ryan where I thought he would be developmentally at this age?  Could I have done more to help him along?  The older he gets, society expects more of him and will he be able to step up to the plate?

We started this new medicine about a month ago.  Wanting to be careful about the dosage, Ryan initially took only 12.5 mg at night.  Then we added 12.5 mg in the morning.  We’re now up to 25 mg at night and 12.5 mg in the morning.  The hope was that it would calm him a bit so and reduce the pacing, talking to himself and hair pulling.  So far, it hasn’t helped at all.  I know it takes a few weeks to take effect and until he’s at the full dosage of 25 mg in the morning and at night, it’s hard to tell if it will help at all.

We have a fabulous local bakery in Houston.  I actually used to work there and they have amazing desserts!  It’s called Dessert Gallery Bakery and Café and they actually ship a lot of their desserts if you’re ever wanting something decadent.  When you sign up for their e-newsletters, they also send you a coupon during the month of your birthday.  You’re entitled to a free birthday cupcake which is very cool considering my family loves desserts.

Regardless of whether or not your family has special needs, it is an adjustment when someone else is living with you.  With my mom having back surgery, she's staying with us for 7-10 days.  Overall, Ryan is doing quite well.  Yes - his routine is altered but that's okay.  It can't always be the same and about Ryan.  The changes he has to make do not hurt him and regardless of his issues, he still has to adjust to change.

Ryan saw something on the kitchen counter and asked if it was new.  I told him it had been there for several months but on a different counter.  Needing to use it, I moved it so it would be easier to get.
What a great summer!
