Yes - that's the title of today's blog.  We recently went out for a family dinner.  Ryan got up FIVE times to wash his hands.  I kid you not.  It didn't bother me or the other adults.  One of the other kids did wonder why he was getting up so much.  I just explained that this is what Ryan needed to do.  Sometimes, he only gets up once or twice.  But tonight, it was five times.

As Ryan was getting ready for bed tonight, I asked him if he knew what tomorrow was.  He said "yes, your birthday".  I was shocked and then asked "did you remember on your own?"  He was truthful and said "Grandma told me".  Gotta love my mom - always looking out for her daughter!!!!

There was a wonderful social skills class that Ryan took this past summer.  Fabulous teachers, the owner of the program was amazing and very nice kids in the class.  I thought Ryan would actually enjoy going and they could really help him.  But can you help a child who is afraid to trust their peers?

School projects - joy!  If it has to do with Geometry - I hate to say it but Ryan is on his own.  Biology - probably on his own.  English - I'm in pretty good shape there.  This was World History.  I'm in better shape that Geometry but not as good as English.  But being the devoted parent that I always try to be, I needed to help him with the World History assignment.

Gosh - it has been so long since I've posted.  It has been very hectic to say the least.  Like most parents, I am stretched way too thin.  I accept that this is life right now.  I'd rather be busy than not but do wish there was a little less to get done.

Where did the summer go?  Like most parents, we look forward to the school year being over.  And before we know it, summer is over and it's back to the school year again.

The kids are in Florida right now visiting their dad.  Tomorrow, I'm going to Ryan's high school to pick up his school books.  At least I know what to do this year and the place will be familiar to me.  Last year was VERY hard because everything was so new.  I think it's hard for any  new parent or student until you find your way.  For us, it was even harder because the school is so big.  Some kids love the fact that the school has 3500+ students.  Not Ryan and not me.  But it is what it is and we managed through the Freshman year.

In Ryan's world, they sure do.  Maybe I'm missing something.  As long as they're both white and your long pants are covering them anyway, does it really matter if the part of the sock near the toe is different for each sock?  No one will see it anyway because it's covered by your shoes.

On the fabulous Disney channel is one of Ryan's favorite shows - Phineas and Ferb.  A cartoon with two brothers and their older sister.  The brothers are always getting into some kind of trouble and when the sister tries to tell their mother that they're doing something wrong - the boys quickly fix everything.  The mother believes the daugther's imagination is a bit too overactive.  The sister, Candace, is quite the drama queen.  Ryan loves to say she's "cuckoo".  He reminds me of this often and loves to tell me in case I've forgotten.  I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Watching him with it this morning, he says "Ever heard of the Tempurpedic mattress".  I told him that I have.  "Why don't you get one?  You'll

I travel for my business now and then.  This time, I was gone for three days in Mexico.  Since Jason was home from college, the boys would be fine sleeping here themselves.  Jason is very responsible that way so I wasn't worried.

Like most parents of Autistic kids, working on social skills and etiquette is a 24 hour a day job.  There are so many teachable moments because with kids like Ryan, manners must be taught over and over and over again.  Adding to the difficulty is that mastering the skill in one setting doesn't mean it will transfer to another setting.
