In Ryan's world, they sure do.  Maybe I'm missing something.  As long as they're both white and your long pants are covering them anyway, does it really matter if the part of the sock near the toe is different for each sock?  No one will see it anyway because it's covered by your shoes.

On the fabulous Disney channel is one of Ryan's favorite shows - Phineas and Ferb.  A cartoon with two brothers and their older sister.  The brothers are always getting into some kind of trouble and when the sister tries to tell their mother that they're doing something wrong - the boys quickly fix everything.  The mother believes the daugther's imagination is a bit too overactive.  The sister, Candace, is quite the drama queen.  Ryan loves to say she's "cuckoo".  He reminds me of this often and loves to tell me in case I've forgotten.  I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Watching him with it this morning, he says "Ever heard of the Tempurpedic mattress".  I told him that I have.  "Why don't you get one?  You'll

I travel for my business now and then.  This time, I was gone for three days in Mexico.  Since Jason was home from college, the boys would be fine sleeping here themselves.  Jason is very responsible that way so I wasn't worried.

Like most parents of Autistic kids, working on social skills and etiquette is a 24 hour a day job.  There are so many teachable moments because with kids like Ryan, manners must be taught over and over and over again.  Adding to the difficulty is that mastering the skill in one setting doesn't mean it will transfer to another setting.

It's a questions that I often ask myself.  I am very blessed to have a number of close friends.  As long as I can remember, I was fortunate to have friends that I could rely on and confide in.  In high school, college and beyond - it was never an issue for me.

Ryan is a different story.  His friend joined us at the movies and he has known this boy for 10 years.  They were in elementary school together in the same class and while they went to different middle and high schools, we've always kept in touch and gotten together.

Going to the movies is something we do often.  It's a popular form of entertainment for my family.  We usually invite a friend that Ryan has had since elementary school.  By friend, I use this term loosely.  It's not as though they call each other up.  The mom's make the plans.  This boy is so sweet and Ryan enjoys seeing him.

Music to Ryan's ears!  His summer social skills program that was held in June on Monday - Thursday finally finished on June 30th.  Ryan could not have beeen more happy.  It's not that he fought me about going to the class.  A couple of kids that he already knew attend the same program and it's always nice to see familiar faces.  But in Ryan's mind, he is SO exhausted from the school year that the only thing he wants to do is "nothing".

Since the day my kids were born, I've always encouraged and stressed proper manners and social skills.  Even before their diagnosis, I believed this was important as this is how I was raised.

But what do you do when your younger child truly lacks conversational skills?  He will say hello and ask how you are doing.  But that is the extent of it.  It's very difficult to force conversation that doesn't come naturally.

One of the many great benefits about Ryan's social skills class is that they have community outings.  It's wonderful because it allows kids to transfer what they've learned from the classroom into the community.  The first outing was the food bank and now they went to the bowling alley.

Great choice - Ryan loves bowling.  It was a different bowling alley than the one he usually goes to but that was no problem.  It was very high tech with music videos and sports games being broadcast about each lane.  Comfy seats and great food - he was a happy camper.

In Ryan's world, they sure do.  They must match perfectly from top to bottom.  In my opinion, if both socks are white and being covered by long pants and shoes - does the part near the toe have to match as well?
